Be vigilant for pedestrians, cyclists, other motor vehicles, yield signs, stop signs, and traffic lights.
Check sidewalks, paths, and trails in addition to the roadways.
Remember that children may not be familiar with traffic laws and local bylaws might permit them to cycle on sidewalks.
A green light means you can proceed carefully through the intersection.
A yellow light indicates you should stop if possible; if not, continue with caution.
A red light requires you to stop fully and wait for the green light.
Slow down or stop as necessary
Give the right-of-way to traffic already in the intersection or on the intersecting road.
Proceed through the intersection only when it is safe.
If turning left, wait for oncoming traffic to pass or turn, and for pedestrians in or approaching your path to cross.
If turning right, wait for pedestrians to cross if they are in or approaching your path.
Check your mirrors and perform a shoulder check.
