- A striped buffer zone divides HOV lanes. Crossing the striped buffer pavement markings is not allowed and not safe
- Buses and emergency vehicles like police, fire, and ambulance do not have to follow the HOV lane rules and restrictions, meaning they can use them at any time, no matter how many people are inside
- Using HOV lanes in the wrong way may lead to being stopped and given a ticket by a police officer and being told to go back to the general lanes at the next entry/exit zone
- To use HOV lanes, commercial motor vehicles need to have two or more occupants and be less than 6.5 meters in total length
- Single-occupant taxis and airport limousines are allowed in the HOV lane.
- Vehicles with the "Green" license plate can use the HOV lane with any number of occupants. Green plates are available for eligible plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and full-battery electric vehicles
